Do you offer free quotes?

How long does a loft conversion take?

That will depend on the type of conversion we are building, but you can usually count on it taking just one to three weeks from the start of the build to completion. When we attend your home to discuss your loft conversion plans, we’ll be able to provide a more accurate estimate of the likely duration of any work.

Do I need planning permission for a loft conversion?

In many cases, loft conversions can be carried out under permitted development rights, meaning that no planning permission will be required. You are most likely to need planning permission if you live in a listed building or a conservation area. Other restrictions include the amount of extra space you’re adding and how far any addition reaches up or out. We’ll be able to advise when discussing your ideas whether you’ll need to apply for planning permission for your particular conversion.

Is building regulations approval needed for a loft conversion?

Yes, even if planning permission is not needed, there will still be a requirement for building regulations approval. For example, effectively installing an extra floor to your home brings fire safety implications, while electrics and any plumbing will also need to meet strict standards.

Can I live in my house during a loft conversion?

Yes – there shouldn’t be any need for you to move out, unless you really want to. There will, of course, be some disruption during a loft conversion, but you should be able to live at home without too much trouble, and it should only take one to three weeks to complete.

Even if you think that your loft might be too small, we might still be able to do something with it, so it’s always worth getting our advice before dismissing the idea out of hand!

What’s the difference between a Velux and a dormer loft conversion?

Velux and dormer loft conversions are probably the most popular and commonly installed loft conversions of all! A Velux loft conversion generally uses an existing large loft space with a Velux window incorporated into the slope of the roof, while a dormer loft conversion expands on a smaller loft space by extending up and/or projecting out from the existing roof.
